DAB's Clocks is a collection of hand made, one of a kind devices that each display time in unconventional and interesting ways. These time pieces are both functionally and aesthetically pleasing. I design and build some of my clocks without any assistance. For others I've collaborated with Guy Marsden and relied upon him for all the engineering and fabrication. In these situations I'll typically build a mock up to confirm feasibility and essential design features. Through an iterative process with Guy I'll ultimately create a 3D representation that Guy will reference during the build.
LabyRinthClock
An Arduino controlled Brio Labyrinth will be used to tilt the surface on which rests a maze with a hidden marble. The clock only "tells" the time when requested. The marble is placed in number twelve position and the clock is signaled to begin the maze. When the correct hour is reached, the ball comes to rest at corresponding position, 1-12. The ball travels through the maze in a sequential manner, i.e., 12, 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,910,11) using motors that tilt the maze left (L)/right(R) and up (U)/down(D). For the marble to travel through the maze the controls are manipulated in the following pattern:
12(Start with Brio tilted to R/D), L, R(1), U, D(2), L(3), R, U, L(4), R(5), L, U (7), D, U, R(8), L(9), R(10), D, L(11).
When the ball comes to rest at the correct hour, the time, including minutes, is announced.
