Edge Lit Acrylic Quartz Clock

A battery powered, high torque quartz clock is mounted on the back of an acrylic sheet that has a clock face laser etched around it's perimeter. Attached to the hour hand axle of the clock movement is a thin black disc. There are two options under consideration for the hole pattern on the rotating disc:

1. A single hole that acts as an hour hand.

2. A series of 6 holes that tells time to the nearest 10 minutes. This will require very careful alignment of disc, and its holes, with the dot pattern that is etched into the sheet that is placed behind it.

The underlying acrylic disc will be etched to match the disc pattern selected:

1. If a single hole then the pattern etched on the disc will be a ring

2. If a series of holes then the pattern will be a series of 12 spiral dots as shown below. spiral as shown below. .

The acrylic sheet is installed in a base, inside which is a linear array of LEDs that shine up through the acrylic. Not shown is a black opaque disc that could be placed behind the acrylic (extending just beyond the clock face etchings) that would increase the contrast of the glowing acrylic etched areas when ambient light is bright.

This clock is intended to be "consumer friendly" and scalable (up to 100 units). To this end I would be looking for the following features:

1. On/off button (back of clock) for LEDs.

2. Switch (on back) to change LED colors (7)

3. Easy to service by consumer by having a removable:

a. Cover over quartz clock

b. Quartz clock

c. Acrylic clock face

d. Black disc on the back side of the clock face

Disc with a Series of Holes for Time to Ten Minutes

At the top of each hour the disc hole furthest out from the center is completely filled with a glowing dot. At 10 minutes past the hour the hole closest to the center is now filled with a glowing dot. With each successive 10 minutes that passes the next hole out from the center is aligned with a glowing dot.
