"Smart" Grandfather Clock
Replicate a Grandfather Clock Case and replace the mechanical mechanism with an electronic LED Clock that is covered with smart film. Smart film is opaque when no voltage is applied. Once a voltage is applied the film becomes clear.

Video demonstrating how "smart" film diffuses the image when no voltage is applied to the film. As soon as voltage is applied the film clears and the time is revealed. The observed flickering is an artifact of the videography.
